Both Zenit and Malmo will be looking for their first Champions League win this term in a Group H fixture that schedules at the Kretovsky Stadium on Wednesday with kickoff at 19:45.
Zenit St Petersburg head into the match off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in their opening Champions League fixture where the hosts take confidence from the match despite the loss as they displayed a wonderful defence having limited the reigning European Champions to just two attempts on the target.
The defeat is the only one for the hosts this season as they are currently unbeaten their domestic league campaign recording seven wins in their opening nine matches and currently occupy the top spot with 23 points in the Russian Premier League standings.
They head into the match off the back of back-to-back wins and are in good form having only lost one of their last six matches across all competitions. Zenit are also in a brilliant home form as they have not lost in any of their last nine home games with an eight-match winning streak.
Therefore, Sergey Semak’s side come into match looking to maintain their form and will be keen to make their home Champion League fixtures count as they are grouped alongside top sides like Chelsea and Juventus hence the Wednesday’s clash is must win for Russian outfit.
Meanwhile Malmo suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Juventus in their opening Champions League fixture, a match where the Swedish outfit could not just match Juventus as they chased the game for long periods and struggled to create chances ending the match with just one attempt on target.
Malmo have been struggling generally this season and have been in an unconvincing form as they have only recorded two wins in their last seven matches across all competitions. Malmo have also struggled in their recent away matches as they suffered two defeats in their last three away matches across all competitions.
However, they come into the match of the back of back-to-back triumphs recording a 1-0 against Elfsborg and a 5-1 win against Orebro in their last domestic fixtures and will be looking to maintain the form in the tomorrow’s match.
Zenit St Petersburg vs Malmo head to head
These two are yet to lock horns in any competition and although success is not expected in this match for the away side, manager Tomasson will be keen to see his side put up a fight against their hosts who are realistically the most likely opponent they can claim three points against.
