Both Wycombe and Wigan will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they lock horns in an important League One action at the Adams Park on Tuesday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Following a fine start to the 2021/22 League One campaign Wycombe Wanderers appeared to be in the race for a direct promotion with the club sitting at the summit of the standings at some point.
However, Gareth Ainsworth’s side now seem to have run out of steam and after claiming just three points from their last five matches, Wycombe find themselves scrambling to remain in the playoffs as they sit six level on 55 points with both Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday who sit seventh and eighth respectively.
They are coming off a 5-5 thrilling draw against Cheltenham Town at Adams Park last Saturday with Alfie May turning in a high quality performance, scoring four goals as Cheltenham came back from two goals down twice in the match to snatch a hard-fought point.
The draw saw Chairboys record their third consecutive draw in League One and will need to turn around their draws into victories as soon as possible if they are to remain in the playoff spots.
Meanwhile Wigan Athletic were denied a chance to claim a third consecutive win on the bounce last time out as they were held to 1-1 draw by Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium last Friday.
The Lactic still six points behind Rotherham at the summit of the standings, but still with two matches in hand and will hope to use the two move level on points with the Millers at the summit of the table.
Therefore, Wigan will be out for the three points in the Tuesday clast as they look to maintain or reduce the gap between them and the summit.
