Walsall and Charlton Athletic will continue their EFL Cup campaign with a second round tie in the West Midlands on Tuesday.

While the hosts sit in ninth place in League Two, Charlton are in sixth position in League One, possessing an identical record when it comes to wins, draws and defeats.

When the fixtures for the new season were released, Charlton Athletic discovered that they had been handed one of the difficult starts in League one.

However, in a run of five games which has included matches with Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday, the Addicks have picked eight points from a possible 15.

Ben Garner, who arrived at The Valley earlier in the summer, will be satified with that return, particularly with the victories over Derby and Plymouth Argyle.

While Michael Flynn will not necessarily have too mant concerns at this stage of the season, he will certainly recognise that his players need to rediscover their touch in the final third of the pitch if they are to push towards the upper echelons of the league table.

Walsall last victory came in this competition with two last goals being scored against Swindon Town, the former club of Charlton manager Garner.
