Both VPS and Honka will be looking for third consecutive victories in the Veikkausliiga when they lock horns at the Elisa Stadion in their Matchday 12 fixture on Wednesday evening.
VPS have made an inconsistent campaign in the Veikkausliiga this season with the side claiming four victories and one draw from their 1o matches, while suffering five defeats in the run.
However, Jussi Nuorela’s side head into the match in high spirits after making it back-to-back victories in the league, following a thumping 5-1 win over rock-bottom HIFK. They now sit eighth in the bottom half of the table on 13 points, just two points behind the sixth-placed Ilves, and will be looking to extend the run as they seek to climb out of the Relegation half.
A victory on Wednesday for the hosts could leave as high as fifth spot something they will be gunning for in the clash, although they are coming up against Honka a side they have failed to beat in their last four meeting across all competitions, suffering defeats three times in the run.
Honka are also in high spirts following their 2-0 league success over league leaders KuPS last weekend. The victory saw them claim back-to-back wins in Veikkausliiga following the 2-1 defeat to Oulu and a 0-0 draw against Ilves.
Honka sit third in the league standings currently on 20 points, six points behind both KuPS and HJK, although they have played at least one match less than the two and will be hoping to reduce the gap with another positive result on Wednesday.
Last time Honka visited the Elisa Stadion they claimed a 4-0 win the first round of the Suomen Cup back in match last year. They will now be looking for a similar result on Wednesday although it will not be straightforward as we anticipate a closely contested fixture.
