Villarreal will be looking to maintain their perfect record in Group C of the Europa Conference League when they play host to Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Valencia on Thursday.
With the hosts’ Estadio de la Ceramica under renovation, the Yellow Submarine are having to play at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, the home of fellow La Liga side Levante.
Villarreal bid farewell to 50-year-old Unai Emery, who has made the switch to Aston Villa to succeed Steven Gerrard, having steered Villarreal to Europa League glory in 2020-21, the club’s first and only trophy in their 99-year history.
The Yellow Submarine are one of the only teams in this season’s competition, alongside West Ham United, who have a perfect record in the group stage after four games, including a 2-1 victory away to Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Thursday.
Villarreal, who won 2-1 over Almeria in Emery’s final game in charge at the weekend, have already qualified for the knckout stages and have also secured top spot in Group C with two matches to spare.
Hapoel Be’er Sheva have also put together a strong run of form heading into the contest, as they are unbeaten in each of their last seven matches across all competitions.
They ended their four-game drawing run when they claimed a 4-1 away win in the Israeli Premier League over Hapoel Jerusalem last weekend, moving up to third in the table and within five points of leaders Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Elyaniv Barda is yet to guide his side to victory in this season’s competiton, but they still have a good chance of joining Villarreal in the knockout stages.
Hapoel have taken three points from their first four matches and they currently sit third in Group C, two points behind second-placed Lech Poznan with whom they drew twice against ealier this month.
