Sampdoria will desperately look to end their poor run of form when they square off against Verona at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi in their Serie A Matchday 34 tie on Saturday night with kickoff at 21:45.
Verona have had their fair share of inconsistency this season, but they have put up a convincing campaign claiming 48 points from 33 matches which have left them sitting ninth in the top half of the table. They are also still in the race for a European spot, although their chances are really slim as they sit eight points behind sixth-placed Fiorentina, who have played one match less than the Gialloblu.
Despite collecting seven points from their last four Serie A matches – including a key victory over Atalanta last weekend, Verona’s form hasn’t been that convincing recently, which is what will probably keep them just outside of the end-of-season European race. However, their last weekend victory was a massive confidence booster and they will look to build on that.
Meanwhile Sampdoria have struggled throughout this season and they sit 16th in the standings, just two places and seven points above the relegation zone with 29 points from 33 matches. They were left empty-handed again in Serie A last time out as they fell to 2-1 home defeat to Salernitana last Saturday. They have now lost six of their last seven Serie A matches and are coming off a three-match losing streak.
With just five matches remaining to go Sampdoria need to turn around their results to seal their Serie A survival. They have won in all their last four Serie A meetings with Verona, including the 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture, and should be confident of turning around their fortunes on Saturday.
