AC Milan will seek to extend their winning streak to three matches when they travel to Stadio Pierluigi Penzo to take on Venezia in Sunday’s early kickoff knowing that three points in this fixture would at least put them temporarily at the top of standings. The clash is scheduled to kickoff at 14:30.
Venezia returns to the Serie Action for the first time this year as they match against Salernitana, which was supposed to be their opening match of 2022, was called off at short notice due to a Covid-19 outbreak in Salernitana’s camp. Now they open with a tough fixture against the Rossoneri, who they lost to 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Despite starting the second half of the season close to the drop zone as they currently sit 16th on 17 points just four points above the last three, the Lagunari would be happy with making a relatively solid first half campaign, which featured highlights such as the comeback win against Roma and October’s triumph against Fiorentina.
However, they finished 2021 in a poor form having won none of their last six Serie A matches and they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Lazio in their closing match. Therefore, Venezia will want to begin 2022 in a positive way as they aim at preventing an immediate return to the Serie B. But they face AC Milan who they haven’t beaten since March 2000 so even a point in this fixture for Venezia will be a significant bonus in their fight to avoid the drop and it will be a massive confidence boost.
AC Milan are seeking a return to the summit of the Serie A standing even if it will be brief moment. They took advantage of Inter’s match against Bologna being called off lately on Thursday to narrow the gap between them and the league leaders with a statement victory at San Siro against AS Roma.
With now just a point separating the two Milan rivals, Stefano Pioli will use this chance to get on the top of the rankings with a favorable match against the struggling Venezia. Also Milan will fancy their chances in the Sunday’s clash as they have been good on road this season racking up more points at away than at home.
