Uruguay and Colombia go head-to-head this Sunday morning in what will be a tough Copa America quarter final fixture at Mane Garrincha with kickoff at 01:00.
Uruguay managed to advance to the quarter final following their slow and difficult start in the group stage. Uruguay kicked off their Copa America campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Argentina in their opener followed by a slightly underwhelming 1-1 draw with Chile thanks to a Luis Suarez equalizer in the 60th minute to earn Uruguay their first point of the competition after Eduardo Vargas had put Chile ahead.
The La Celeste however bounced back with two wins at the end of the group stage earning a second spot finish with seven points after Argentina who finished with 10 points. Oscar Tabarez’s side beat Bolivia 2-0 as Edinson Cavani got his name on the scoresheet after Jairo Quinteros netted in his own goal. Uruguay went ahead and finished with a 1-0 win over Paraguay in their final group fixture thanks to a Cavani goal from the penalty spot.
Although they started off their campaign in a somewhat poor form Uruguay have been improving throughout and will aim to continue their winning mentality in the Sunday’s clash.
Colombia on the other hand have been struggling and are yet to fulfil their potential in this tournament having finished in the third spot with four points in the group stage.
Colombia head into the quarter final off the back of two defeats, including a 2-1 from Brazil and 2-1 loss to Peru, a stalemate draw with Venezuela and a 1-0 win over Eduardo in their opening fixture.
The La Tricolor will head into the match looking to bounce back from the two defeats with a win in the quarter final as they look to lift the Copa America cup for the second time in their nation’s history.
