Union Berlin and Braga will battle for the second place in Group D of the Europa League when they face off at An der alten Forsterei on Thursday night.
Union Berlin got off to a poor start to the Europa League campaign, as they lost both their opening two fixtures to Union Gilloise and Braga.
However the Germans have turned the tables and now stand a chance to finish second in the group. They have won their subsequent two matches, beating Malmo 1-0 in both legs and as a result they sit third on six points, just one point behind third-placed Braga.
With two matches remaining to go Union Berlin will aim to overtake Braga in second place with a win on Thursday. They are coming off a 2-1 defeat at Bochum in Bundesliga last Sunday, although their confidence is still in check as they have won all their last four home games in a row.
Meanwhile, Braga played out a 3-3 draw with group leaders St Gilloise to remain second in the standings. They remain three points behind St Gilloise and will need to win both their remaining matches and hope that the Belgians can drop points to stand a chance of finishing top of the group.
They however have the upper hand to finish second in the group and for that they only need to win in this fixture. They beat Union Berlin 1-0 in the reverse fixture, and they are coming off back-to-back victories over Felgueras 1932 (2-1) in the Taca de Portugal and Estoril (2-0) in the Primeira Liga.
They therefore have the momentum going into the fixture and should fancy their chances, although they will be aware of the tough task at hand.
