Round two of Serie A begins this Friday with Udinese taking on newly promoted Venezia in an exciting fixture at the Stadio Friuli in Udine with kickoff at 19:30.
Despite being in a poor form Udinese displayed a strong and impressive performance against serie A giants Juventus in their opening match last weekend. Luca Gotti’s side managed to secure one point following their 2-2 draw against Juve with Roberto Pereyra and Gerard Deulofeu cancelling Juventus’ first half goals from Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado.
Prior to the draw, Udinese were off the back of a 3-1 victory against Ascoli in a Copa Italia match, which saw the them break their seven-match winless run across all competitions with six defeats and a draw.
Udinese’s main target this season will be to break into the top-half finishes, having finished between the 12th and 14th positions in each of their last five seasons, evidenced in their season opening fixture and Gotti will encourage his side to use their confidence from their opening draw in the Friday’s match as he aims at winning their first home match since March.
Despite failing to beat Venezia in their last to seasons at home, Udinese will fancy their chances of securing all the three points n Friday which would end their six-match winless run in Serie A stretching back to last season.
Meanwhile Venezia managed to return to the top flight for the first time in 19 years following their promotion from the second-tier last season. The Arancioneroverdi opened their new Serie A campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Napoli with Lorenzo Insigne scoring from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute a few minutes after missing one before Eljif Elmas doubled their lead 20 minutes to time.
Venezia played majority of that match with 10 men following the dismissal of Victor Osimhen in the 22nd minute and Paolo Zanetti is expected to get his sides discipline in check having given away two penalties and receiving seven yellow cards in the opener.
Venezia are in good form currently as they have only lost one of their last six matches and will head into the Friday’s match aiming to become the first newly-promoted side to win an a away match on a Friday in Serie A.
