Torino vs Spezia Match Analysis and Prediction

Spezia make a trip to Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to face 11th-placed Torino on Saturday, with the hosts still in contention for a top-half finish in Serie A.

After shutting out an AC Milan side who are desperate for points in pursuit of the Scudetto, Torino posted another draw against high-profile Lazio last weekend.

As a result, II Toro have won just once in their last 11 Serie A matches, while drawing six and losing four. They have also failed to score more than once in any game throughout that spell.

Their last time to score twice was back in January, so Pellegri’s overdue goal will be welcomed by Ivan Juric, as he seeks further firepower in the final third.

That may prove the difference as they attempt to break in to the top half of the table before the season comes to an end. However, hopes of drawing in 10th-placed Sassuolo are already slim, with Torino trailing I Neroverdi by six points, but with a game in hand.

Seeking a rare Serie A double, Spezia enter Turin on Saturday having come out on top in November’s reverse fixture, when Jacopo Sala’s goal separated the sides at Stadio Alberto Picco.

That was one of only five home victories they have recorded all season, with the win coming amid a five-game period when they lost four times, being on the wrong end of an aggregate goals tally of 11-3.

However, Thiago Motta has since stabilised his side, and the Aquilotti sit safely in 15th spot, with a second successive survival mission complete.

Picking up seven points from four matches before their Good Friday defeat to Inter saw them climb 11 points clear of the relegation zone. Spezia’s target of securing a Serie A status for just the third season in their history is within reach.

Torino news

Andrea Belotti sustained a minor muscular injury against Lazio last week, but he will be available to lead the attack, while Pietro Pellegri will be on standby to deputise.

Tommaso Pobega, Armando Izzo and Sasa Lukic will have to be assessed before the game, having picked up knocks at Stadio Olimpico.

Spezia news

Spezia’s only injury concerns will be on midfield duo of Leo Sena and Mehdi Bourabia, but Thiago Motta will also have two unnamed players absent due to COVID-19.

Rey Manaj is favoured to start up front again, with top scorer Daniele Verde pushing for a place in his supporting cast.

Prediction and Odds

Both teams enter the contest as two of the lowest-scoring sides outside the bottom three, so the fixture is most likely to be a closely-fought one, with either capable of winning.

Despite Spezia having dominated in their last two meetings, this one is likely to end level with Torino playing at home.
