Top 4 Records Set to Be Broken at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar

We are in the thick of it as the World Cup 2022 has started. Host Qatar is trying to maintain its spot at the top, while Saudi Arabia is threatening Argentina after a 2-1 loss.

The matches are providing plenty of entertainment as we get a lot of upsets and surprises. Benzema’s injury, Senegal’s loss, and Italy not qualifying for this year’s World Cup made it even more surprising. This year’s FIFA World Cup is set to be one of the deadliest yet biggest sporting events around the globe.

With the football World Cup happening right now, there’s no better time to take a look at some of the records set to be broken by the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Lionel Messi to Break Competition’s Appearance Record.

After he’s done with the World Cup 2022, Lionel Messi could say he’s played in more games than any other player.

The Argentina star has played more than any other active player in 19 World Cup games during his career. The record for the most World Cup games ever belongs to Germany’s Lothar Matthäus with 25. If Argentina makes it to the final and Messi plays in each of the seven matches, he will break Matthäus’ record.

Ronaldo to Score at Five World Cups

In a career that has spanned over two decades, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a total of 700 goals for club and country. Most of those goals were scored in the European leagues, but he also has two World Cup medals.

In the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo will have an opportunity to add another trophy to his collection: scoring at five different World Cups.

Although most people will be rooting for Messi or Neymar to bring home the trophy for Argentina this year, it would be a fitting tribute to Ronaldo if he became the first player ever to score at five World Cups.

Neymar Surpasses Pele’s All-Time Scoring Record

Neymar is expected to surpass Pele’s all-time scoring record at Qatar’s 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Brazilian superstar currently has 75 goals for Brazil, meaning he needs just three more to surpass Pelé’s record of 77, which has stood since 1971.

Neymar will be 30 years old at the time of the World Cup and is currently playing at a level that has seen him become one of the best players in history. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has already won two Ligue 1 titles with PSG and a Champions League trophy with Barcelona.

Harry Kane Becomes England’s All-Time Scorer

Harry Kane is three goals away from breaking Wayne Rooney’s record for most goals scored for England and becoming the nation’s all-time highest goal scorer.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has 51 goals in 75 games for the Three Lions and is set to join an elite list of players who have scored more than 50 international goals.

Rooney retired from international soccer in 2018, scoring 53 goals in 120 appearances, while Gary Lineker holds second place with 52 goals after playing 80 times for his country.
