Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club located in Liverpool, England. The club was founded in 1892, and they joined the Football League the following year. The club competes in the English football top flight, the Premier League. Liverpool FC plays their home matches at Anfield Stadium.
Ownership
Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool FC on October 15, 2010, from American businessmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks after a financial crisis and deteriorating fans' support.
John Houlding was the first owner of Anfield, founder of Liverpool FC, and the club's first chairperson until 1904, when John McKenna took over. The club has passed through various family successors and owners over time.
Stadium
Anfield has been Liverpool's home grounds since 1892 when the club was formed. The stadium was built in 1884 on land adjacent to Stanley Park, located two miles from Liverpool city center. Everton initially used Anfield before moving to Goodison Park after a dispute over rent with Anfield's owner. The stadium's capacity at the time was 20,000 but currently has a total of 53,000, making it the seventh-largest football stadium in England.
Colors, badge, Kit sponsorship
Liverpool's home colors have been all red. The first colors used were blue and white quartered shirts used until the club adopted the city's color of red in 1896.
Nike is the current club's official kit up to the 2021 season. Umbro, Adidas and Reebok made other branded shirts worn by the club.
Fans and Rivalries
Liverpool is one of the most supported clubs in Europe and the world. The club boasts a worldwide fan base that includes more than 200 officially recognized Supporters Clubs in at least 50 countries. A notable fan group is the Spirit of Shankly, and the club's anthem is "You'll Never Walk Alone."
Liverpool FC has long-standing rivalries with Manchester United and Everton. The rivalry with Everton originates from Liverpool's formation and the dispute between Everton officials and the then owners of Anfield. Liverpool's rivalry with Manchester United roots back from the cities' competition in the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century.
Club honors
Liverpool has won nineteen League titles, eight FA Cups, nine League Cups, and fifteen FA Community Shields. The club has also won six European Cups, three UEFA Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, all English records and one FIFA Club World Cup. The club established itself as a major force in the 1970s and 1980s.
