Syria vs. Lebanon Match Analysis and Prediction

This week, Syria looks to end its 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the top of their group when they take on Lebanon. The match schedules for Tuesday evening at the King Abdullah Stadium with kickoff at 7 pm.

Both sides come off disappointing results in their last roundups in the World Cup qualifiers. Syria suffered a 2-1 loss to South Korea, whereas Lebanon picked up a 0-0 draw to Iraq.

While the Winnipeg Jets and the Columbus Blue Jackets would still be able to sneak into the playoff spot should either of them lose, the point spacing between these three teams should make the elimination a formality.

In addition, Lebanon, currently ranked third in Group A, are level on points with the United Arab Emirates ahead of them.

Despite losing out in their first-round three qualifying trios, Lebanon could jump the UAE to third to win over Syria and secure a playoff tie against Uzbekistan.

Lebanon, which also secured a place in the Asia Cup 2023, will meet another team that enjoyed an excellent second-round group phase in Syria and led their group ahead of China.

The Nosour Qasioun, this time, had a different story. They, too, are without a win after three games in the third round.

If Syria wins against Lebanon, it will see its first win against the Cedars since 2011 – a result achieved during an international match.

Syria Team News

No player in the Syrian squad has appeared in more international matches than Mahmoud Al-Mawas, and the 28-year-old defender will be looking for his third goal for his country if he is on the right side of the attack.

Lebanon Team News

In its previous qualifiers, one of Lebanon’s standout players, Mostafa Matar, conceded two goals from three third-round games. The 26-year-old goalkeeper will be eager to finish fourth when he has got his defense in front of him.

Prediction and Odds

In a group context, both sides lost, as a loss ended the loser’s dream of the World Cup. Therefore, we expect a low-scoring affair.
