Sunderland will be welcoming relagation-threatened Morecambe at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday in their League One fixture.
The hosts remain in the playoff places in the third division despite the poor run of form they have found themselves on while the visitors won in the FA Cup at the weekend but remain in trouble in the league.
Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Oxford United on Saturday means they have just two wins in their last 11 matches across all competitions.
Despite their troubles recently, the Black Cats remain in a strong fifth position, and just two point off Rotherham United at the top ahead of the midweek round of action.
Lee Johnson will be disappointed with his being unable to claim three points at the Stadium of Light on Saturday though, with a strong secon-half display with no rewards at the end of the game.
A greater threat was provided after the restart but Johnson’s side failed to find the winner and had to settle for one point, but a victory will be expected against struggling opponents on Tuesday.
Morecambe head to the Stadium of Light for their first ever league meeting with Sunderland, in what continues to be a tough debut campaign in the League One.
Although it would have been expected the Shrimps to already be cut adrift at the bottom of the table, Steve Robinson’s side head to the north east in midweek outside the relagation zone.
Despite being away from league action at the weekend, Morecambe remain two points above the relagation zone, but could fall into the relagation places were the results go against them and were they to lose on Tuesday.
However, having won just one of their last nine in League One, Morecambe came out victorious, and also record a clean sheet in their 1-0 victory over Buxton on Saturday.

Sunderland news
Sunderland have a number of injuries, with Frederik Alves and Will Harris set to miss out joining Ellis Taylor as short-term absentees.
Aiden McGeady, Dennis Cirkin, Denver Hume, Corry Evans and Luke O’Neil are also expected to be in the asentee list, which could allow a number of youngsters to feature.
Morecambe news
Morecambe are expected to hand Jonathan Obika his debut following his first involvement in the squad, but would definately not be in this game. Aaron Wildig and Josh McPake are nearing return from injury. Goalkeeper Kyle Letheren returned on Saturday and will compete with Jokull Andresson for the number one spot.
Prediction and Odds
Although we expect Morecambe to score at the Stadium of Light, their poor defence would cause them issues that could let them concede goals. Despite Sunderland being on a poor run of form, we expect them to use the home advantage to win this game. So, we predict a home victory.
