Celtic will be hoping to end their slump when they travel to McDiarmid Park to take on St Johnstone in their Premiership Matchday 10 tie on Saturday afternoon.
Since battering their Glasgow rivals Rangers 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic have hit a slump picking up just one win in their last five fixtures, although three of those were tough Champions League encounters.
Premiership leaders were put to the sword by Leipzig in their previous European endeavor, losing out 3-1 on the road. Earlier, they lost 3-0 to Real Madrid on the opening night and then drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Champions League travails seem to have dented Celtic’s confidence in the Premiership as they were on the end of a shocking 2-0 defeat to St Mirren and followed that up with an unconvincing 2-1 home win over Motherwell last weekend.
The Hoops still sit top of the Premiership and they will be looking to use this fixture to end their slump. They have won all their last six matches against the Saints and they will hope to keep the run alive on Saturday.
St Johnstone seemed to have picked up their stride in the Premiership winning two in three since on the bounce, but the run was ended last time out as they went down 2-1 to newly-promoted Kilmarnock.
Their problem this season has been inconsistency and after flirting dangerously with the relegation zone last term, the Saints will look to avoid similar situations this season. Therefore they will be hoping to capitalize on Celtic’s slump, but they will need to be at their best to stand a chance on Saturday.
