Spezia play host to Serie B side Brescia at the Stadio Alberto Picco looking for a positive result in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.
The two sides swapped divisions in 2020 when Spezia were promoted to Serie A while Brescia were relegated into the second tier.
Spezia would have felt satisfied with the start they have made to the season under Luca Gotti, who replaced Thiago Motta as manager over the summer, as they sit four points clear of danger after 10 games.
M’Bala Nzola’s form has proved a key factor in their solid start, as the forward has found a knack of scoring important goals, netting the winning goal in both of their league wins so far, with six goals overall for the season so far.
Another reason they can be pleased with the start they have made is that they were given a tough run of away matches to start the campaign, playing Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Lazio in their opening four games away from home.
However, Spezia still find themselves in a relatively safe position at the moment, even though they are the only side in Serie A yet to collect a point or score a goal away from home.
Brescia, who are battling to return to the top flight after two successive failures in the playoffs, started the season impressively, winning five of their first six matches.
However, things have changed very rapidly since returning from the international break, as just one point from a possible nine has seen them fall from joint first to seventh.
A 6-2 defeat to Bari appears to be where that poor run of results started and it began going wrong, and it could have been worse as they were trailing by a 6-0 scoreline with five minutes to go.

Spezia news
Simone Bastoni missed the 2-2 draw with Cremonese on Sunday with a minor muscle injury, but he may be ready to make a return for this contest.
Arkadiusz Reca is not quite as ready to return to the starting lineup, as the left-back has been missing since before the international break with a hamstring injury.
Brescia news
Australian full-back Fran Karacic has been the only Brescia absentee of late, but he could make a return on Wednesday on the right-hand side in place of Alexander Jallow.
Luca Lezzerini has been a regular in goal for the visitors this season, but Lorenzo Andrenacci could be be handed a start.
Prediction and Odds
The last encounter between the two sides ended in a 4-4 draw back in 2019 in Serie B, and even though both teams recorded big wins in the first round, they are likely to draw again.
However, Spezia’s top-flight quality may just prove enough to defeat a Brescia side seeking for confidence.
