Southampton hopes to build their growing form this weekend when they tackle Burnley in the Premier League. The match is scheduled for Saturday at the St. Mary’s Stadium, with a kickoff at 5 pm.
The hosts beat Leeds United last weekend, whereas Burnley only has three draws from their opening eight games.
After Southampton defeated Leeds last Saturday, Ralph Hasenhuttl would have known that the value of that first win could be undermined if they failed to back it up against Burnley.
Just like Arsenal, Southampton started the season in a tough way. With six of their eight games played against teams that finished in the top half in 2020-21 and a home tie against an out-of-form Burnley side, it’s understandable that they found it hard to build any momentum.
Furthermore, Hassenhuttl has told his team to be wary of the threat posed by Leeds, but their side will be among favourites to record successive league wins for the first time in five months.
However, at the other end of the pitch, they have struggled, scoring just six goals all season- just Burnley and Norwich City have managed fewer.
Southampton haven’t scored in their last five home league games, and Burnley haven’t scored in four of their last six away games across all competitions; this suggests a low-scoring encounter in-store on Saturday.

Southampton Team News
Southampton’s inability to hit the back of the net is unlikely to be helped by the continued absence of their top league scorer James Ward-Prowse, who will serve the second match of his suspension following his red card against Chelsea earlier this month.
Burnley Team News
Ben Mee, Charlie Taylor and Matej Vydra, who are in contention to feature this weekend, should help Burnley. Dyche hinted that the upcoming three-game week could have a bearing on whether these three play, but Salah is expected to return to the starting XI.
Prediction and Odds
There was an entertaining 3-2 in this fixture back in April, but we cannot see a repeat of that goalfest here, given how difficult both sides have found it to score so far this season.
- Southampton Win
- Goals Under 3.5
- No Goals: Away
