Southampton vs Brentford Match Analysis and Prediction

Southampton will be looking to put an end to their six-match winless run when they host Brentford at St. Mary’s Stadium in what is anticipated to be an interesting premiere League on Saturday evening with kickoff at 18:00.

Southampton have been poor this season with the club managing to post just three points from their 17 league matches while picking up eight draws and six defeats to collect 17 points that have them sitting in the 17th with five points adrift of the top-half.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side head into the match in a poor form as they have won in none of their last six matches, drawing three and losing three in the run and are coming off a 2-2 draw against crystal Palace in the midweek fixture on their second consecutive visit to London. Prior to the draw the Saints lost 3-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates on the weekend.

With Burnley sitting just six points behind them with two games in the relegation zone, Southampton will be hoping to ease fears of a potential relegation battle by claiming all the three points in this match. Also the Saints will be desperate for a confidence booster ahead of their next fixtures against West Ham and Tottenham.

Meanwhile Brentford will be happy with their achievements back to the Premier League with club beating the likes of Everton and Arsenal, while holding Liverpool to a thrilling 3-3 draws and narrowly losing to Chelsea in a match the Blues would forever grateful of Eduardo Mendy’s work as he worked hard to keep out the Bees from stinging them on the day.

Brentford have collected 20 points from their 16 matches, which have left them sitting in the 12th level on point with both Brighton in the 13th and Crystal Palace in the 11th and have spent just under 13 weeks in the bottom half which is impressive for a newly promoted side.

Thomas Frank’s side head into the match on the back of an impressive 2-1 win against Watford with the Bees overturning a 1-0 deficit with just six minutes remaining on the clock as drew level in the 84th minute through Jansson before Bryan Mbeumo gave the winner in the 96th minute from the penalty spot.

The win was Brantford’s fifth win of the season and will head to St Mary’s confidently hoping to post their sixth as they have not lost in their last four matches on the ground. Also, the Bees will want to win as the three points could take them back to the top-half.
