Slovenia vs Slovakia Match Analysis and Prediction

2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resumes this Wednesday with Slovenia welcoming Slovakia to Ljubljana for their fourth group match with kickoff at 21:45.

Slovenia opened their qualification campaign with an impressive 1-0 win over Croatia who are the highest-ranked national team in Group H. However, Matjaz Kek’s side head into the match having dropped points as they suffered back to back defeats against Cyprus and Russia.

The Slovenians are currently in the fifth spot in Group H standings with three points in three matches and will head into the match with a win in mind as three points could prove to be the difference between a playoff spot and elimination.

They head into the match in a good home form as they haven’t lost in any of their last eight home matches with a three-match winning streak. Slovenia will also be looking to build on their 6-0 victory in their last international friendly against Gibraltar.

Meanwhile Slovakia will be looking to return to winning ways and bounce back from their somewhat disappointing Euro 2020 run. Slovakia seemed to be confident of earning a place in the round of 16 after starting their Euro 2020 campaign with a surprise 2-1 victory over Poland.

However, Stefan Tarkovic’s side lost 1-0 to Sweden in a tight second group match before succumbing 5-0 to Spain in the final group encounter, where they conceded all the five goals in a 41-minute spell which saw them exit the Euros with their ambitions cut short.

However, though, the Falcons are the only unbeaten side in Group H so far. They opened the qualification run with a 0-0 against Cyprus then played a 2-2 draw against Malta in their second game before beating Russia 2-1 in their last qualifying match.

Despite, the win Slovakia are in the third spot behind Croatia and Russia and therefore they will head into the match aiming to claim all the three points as they look to stay in close proximity to the top two.
