FC Basel will be out to get revenge on Slovan Bratislava in the Europa Conference League when the sides meet on Thursday.
The hosts caused a major upset by claiming a 2-0 victory in Switzerland last week, moving them to within two points of their upcoming opponents in Group H.
After finishing third in the group stage of the maiden Europa Conference League last season, Slovan Bratislava are hoping to make the knockout rounds of this competition this time around.
After picking up just one point from two games against Pyunik and Zalgiris, that goal looked incredibly unlikely ahead of a double header against Basel.
However, Lukas Pauschek and Aleksandar Cavric scored before half-time to provide their side with a two-goal advantage heading into the second half, with the hosts failing to turn the game around.
Having won four successive Slovakian Super Liga titles, Vladimir Weiss’ side may well feel it is about time they made an impact on European competition, but they need another victory over Basel on Thursday to put fate in their own hands heading into the final two matches in Group H.
Basel have suffered a significant fall from grace in recent times, having failed to secure the Swiss Super League title in each of the last five seasons, despite winning nine of the previous 10.
Alexander Frei’s side reached the last-16 of the Champions League on three occasions in the 2010’s decade as well, but that almost feels a lifetime ago now that they are competing in the Europa Conference League.
However, having made the last-16 of this competition last season, Basel will feel it is one which they can aim competing for towards the tail end, especially with them lagging 11 points and six places behind league leaders Young Boys on the domestic front.

Slovan Bratislava news

He is unlikely to make any changes to the starting XI which defeated Basel last week, with captain Vladimir Weiss starting on the left flank.
FC Basel news
Basel will make the trip to Slovakia without Kasim Adams after he picked up a red card in the reverse fixture last week, but Dan Ndoye could start on the left flank to inject more pace into the side.
