Slovakia Under-19s and Austria Under-19s will be battling for a place in the finals of the 2022 Under-20 World Cup when they face off at Trnava on Tuesday evening with kickoff at 18:00 EAT.
The two missed out on a place in the semifinals of the 2022 Under-19 European Championship after both finishing third in their respective groups on three points from three games.
Both suffered defeats in their opening two matches, with Slovakia losing 5-0 to France in the opening fixture before surrendering to a 1-0 defeat to Italy, while Austria suffered a 2-0 defeat to England on the opening day, before falling 4-2 to Israel.
However both sides managed to end the group stage on a positive note as Slovakia claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Romania, while Austria claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over Serbia. The two will now be looking to build on their last victories with a place in the 2023 Under-20 World Cup finals on the line.
We expect a very close encounter here, although Austria could fancy their chances having beaten Slovakia in their last two meetings consecutively. It won’t be a stroll in the park though as the last they met was back in 2016 and lot things have changed since then.
