COSAFA Cup returns to action with Senegal taking on Eswatini in the first semi-final this Friday as they look to book a place in the finals on Sunday.
Senegal come into the semifinals after topping Group B thanks to a late goal in their final group game against Malawi. Senegal started their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Namibia despite being the pre-tournament favorites. However, they quickly bounced back winning all their remaining matches including the 1-0 against Mozambique, 2-1 against Zimbabwe and the crucial 2-1 against Malawi in the final group game.
Senegal now are the semifinals and will be looking to win the title as the guest nation and would be the first guest nation to lift the trophy. Senegal are the champions of the West-Africa equivalent tournament in 2019.
Eswatini on the other hand came into tournament as the relative underdogs but started off their campaign as title contenders when they hammered Lesotho 3-1 in the opening fixture. However they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to group favorites and title contenders South Africa in their second match. Eswatini then quickly bounced back to a 1-0 win over Zambia to leapfrog back to the top two positions in Group B.
Entering the final game, Eswatini needed just a point to advance to the last four and they picked that up in a 1-1 draw with Botswana making Eswatini finish in the second place in group B.
