Senegal will host Congo in the final round of group games in round two of the World Cup qualifiers at the Stade Lat Dior this Sunday with kickoff at 22:00.
Senegal have been flying high in the group stage as they head into the final group fixture with an eight-point lead in Group H of the CAF World Cup qualifiers. However, their blistering run of results was slightly brought to halt last Thursday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Togo.
Prior to the draw Senegal were on a on a four-match winning streak scoring 12 goals while conceded three in the run. Therefore they head into the match in a good form as they are now on a five-match unbeaten run and are also in a good home form having not lost in their last 24 home matches.
Meanwhile, Congo continue the search for their first World Cup qualifiers win in the final fixture having drawn three and lost two in their five group matches so far. Congo sits at the bottom of Group H with three points and still have minimal chances of finishing in the second place as Togo and Namibia both sit only two points above them. Therefore, a win in this fixture could see them leapfrog the two although that will not be easy considering goal differences.
Paul Put’s side head into the match in a poor run of form having failed to pick up a competitive win in any of their last seven outings claiming four draws and suffering three defeats in the run. They head into the contest on the back of a 1-1 draw with Namibia ad will be looking to end the dry spell as they aim at bowing out on a winning note but face a tough opposition who they have failed to defeat in the last three meetings.
