Best World Cup Finish: 2002 – semi-final

Player to Watch: Heung-Min Son

Group: H

Opponents: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay

Some call it a curse. Others call it bad luck. But the fact remains that South Korea has never won a World Cup match in its ten appearances.

This year, yet, things are looking different for the Taeguk Warriors. They might be the most likely team to win the whole thing.

The country has a strong track record of success at international tournaments. This includes winning two Asian Cups and one gold medal at both the Summer and Winter Olympics. They also have a wealth of experience in top-level soccer.

Their roster includes players from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, like Tottenham, Wolves, and Napoli. Also, some of Asia’s best teams, like Guangzhou Evergrande and Ulsan Hyundai.

Past World Cup Appearance Performances

South Korea is not a team that we expect to see in the knockout rounds of the World Cup. They have only made it past the group stages once in four attempts and won three of their past 13 World Cup matches. Their only appearance in the round of 16 in the past ten years came in 2010 when Uruguay defeated them.

South Korea does have some things going for them, though. They are currently ranked 28th in the world, and their record against teams who will be at this year’s World Cup is pretty good.

But, South Korea’s biggest problem has plagued them since 2002: they need more attacking players to take over a match when needed. This lack of firepower was evident during qualifying, where they scored seven goals over 12 matches. This was the lowest total among all Asian teams that made it through to Russia in 2018.

Recent Form

The South Korean football team is on the rise. After a disappointing showing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the team has worked hard to regain its position as one of the best teams in Asia.

The team finished in 57th place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup but quickly learned from its mistakes and worked to improve. In fact, they rose from 57th to 28th in the rankings in four years.

Players to Watch Out For

Son Heung-min is a key player for his team and has been a regular on the national team. A versatile attacker, he can play on the wing and as a forward. He is a big threat to the opposition when he gets on the ball as he is fast, capable of dribbling past defenders and has a good eye for goal.

Son’s versatility also shows his ability to play across different positions in midfield or attack. This makes him an invaluable asset to any team he plays for, as they can change their formation without losing any attacking threat.

Unfortunately, South Korea’s captain Heung-Min Son remains doubtful for the upcoming World Cup. This is after undergoing surgery to stabilize a fracture around his left eye. The Tottenham Hotspur star was injured during his club’s Champions League qualifying match against Marseille.
