Santos and Corinthians, which are two of the most successful sides in Brazil, will be looking to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil when the go head to head on Thursday.

Santos suffered a disappointing defeat in the first leg three weeks ago, with Vinicius Zanocelo’s 62nd-minute dismissal adding on to his side’s misery.

Corinthians had already raced into a 3-0 lead at the interval, with Giuliano adding to his tally in the second half to ensure his side made full use of their man advantage.

With Marcelo Fernandes recently appointed as interim boss for the sixth time in his career, it is unlikely he will give up on the tie as he seeks to be trusted with the job on a full-time basis.

Meanwhile, Vitor Pereira’s main concern ahead of this tie will be any potential comfort among his talented Corinthians group of players.

The former Porto and Fernerbahce boss, who was linked with a move to Everton’s vacant managerial spot in January, has made a strong impact since joining Corinthians in February, only losing seven of his 33 matches in charge so far.

To add onto that, Corinthians are currently sitting in second spot in the Brasileiro Serie A standings, just one point behind current league leaders Palmeiras, and they are still in the hunt for a first Copa Libertadores title since 2012.

The Brazilian giants have not won the Copa do Brasil trophy since 2009 either, so ensuring his side hold onto their sizeable lead in the Thursday’s contest against Santos id of the utmost importance to Pereira.
