Sampdoria will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome Genoa to Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris on Friday for the Serie A round nine with kickoff at 21:45.
Sampdoria have made a slow start to the season and are having trouble finding their foot this season having just won one, drawn three and lost four of their opening eight matches to collect six points that have left them sitting just outside the relegation zone.
However, Sampdoria opened their season in a pretty slid form as they only lost one f their opening four matches by a score line of 1-0 to Milan in their opener but things have been difficult ever since their 3-0 win over Empoli as the hosts have only collected one point form their last four matches now and head into the match on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Cagliari last time out.
Sampdoria had more of the ball possession in that match but struggled to find their rhythm in the final third with Morten Thorsby finding a consolation goal in the 82nd minute. Sampdoria head into the contest in a poor form having not won in their last four games and Roberto D’Aversa will be hoping his side will bounce back in this match.
Meanwhile Spezia have also made a slow start and have been struggling with their defence this season having lost five matches so far while picking up just two wins and a draw to collect seven points that have left them in the 16th place just a spot above their Friday opponents and two outside the relegation zone.
Thiago Motta’s side managed to end their three-match losing streak with a 2-1 home win against Salernitana on the weekend, where they had to fight from behind with second half efforts from David Strelec and Viktor Kovalenko sealing their second win of the season.
The visitors have a decent record in away matches having registered a win and three draws from their last six away matches stretching back to last term and Thiago Motta will be hopping his side can keep their momentum going.
Although both teams have endured difficult starts to the season, they tend to produce thrilling encounters and Friday’s match should be no different.
