Salford City vs Rotherham United Match Analysis and Prediction

Rotherham United continue their preparations for a return to the Championship with a club friendly against Salford City on Wednesday.

This will represent the fourth game of the summer for the Millers, while Salford City will be competing in their third having only gotten their schedule underway on Saturday.

Salford have eased back into action with matches against Newcastle Town and Warrington Rylands 1906, games which have been won by 3-1 and 7-2 scorelines respectively.

New boss Neil Wood will be encouraged by the amount of goals that have been scored in his opening two matches, although for the former Manchester United U23 manager will be aware that far tougher challenges await.

Currently, there have been far more outgoings than incomings, but the acquisition of Stevie Mallan from Yeni Malatyaspor highlights the level of player that the North-West outfit feel that they can attract this summer.

Meanwhile, Rotherham have become somewhat of a fluctuating club between the second and third tiers in recent years, and Paul Warne will be eager to change that perception this time around.

While he may not have anticipated having to make so many alterations to the squad which had secured promotion to the second tier, there is an argument that a freshness to the side will benefit the club going forward.

Of the new arrivals, former Manchester City youngster Cameron Humphreys is stand-out player having spent the last three seasons playing in Belgium with Zulte Waregem.

However, each of the new faces will need to hit the ground running, and five matches in less than two weeks will certainly help this side get up to speed.

So far, Rotherham have managed to record victories over Parkgate and Fleetwood Town, with the most recent against League One opponents, which came on Thursday, being by a 2-0 scoreline.

Salford City news

Salford City boss Neil Wood is likely to select the majority of his players who started the game at Warrington Rylands.

That would see new arrival Elliot Watt retain his spot in the squad, but Marcus Dackers is pushing for a chance after scoring a hat-trick in the previous game as a substitute.

Rotherham United news

While Rotherham manager Paul Warne may already be settling on a starting lineup in his mind, he could aim to up the game time for some of his new signings.

Cohen Bramall and Humphreys were only used as substitutes last time out and could come into the squad for this contest.

Prediction and Odds

With the uncertainty over the level of team which will be fielded by each side, this is a match that is difficult to predict.

Salford City ought to be competitive regardless of the starting lineups, but we have a feeling that Rotherham United will still come away with all three points.
