Both Salernitana and Venezia will be looking to return to winning ways when they face off at the Stadio Arechi in their first Serie A action of 2022 on Thursday night with kickoff at 20:30.
Salernitana have had a difficult welcome back to the Italian top flight with club claiming just two wins from their 18 league matches while drawing two and suffering 14 defeats in the process. They have currently collected eight points which have left them languishing at the bottom of the table with eight points adrift of safety.
Stefano Colantuono’s side ended 2021 on a really poor note with the club recording a nine-match winless run drawing just two while suffering seven defeats in the run. They head into their first 2022 Serie A action on the back of a 5-0 thumping against Inter Milan at home with the defeat making it four league defeats in a row.
Salernitana will therefore be looking to put an end to their poor form when they face fellow newbies Venezia. Also the hosts will fancy their chances as they have not lost to their Thursday visitors in their last four meetings, but will need to improve on their home form as they have only claimed one win while have suffered seven defeats from their nine home matches this season.
Meanwhile Venezia were on and off during the first half of the first season back to the top tier. They have recorded four wins, five draws and 10 defeats from their 19 matches, collecting 17 points which have left them sitting in the 16th spot in the league rankings just a place and eight points above the relegation zone.
Like their hosts Venezia ended 2021 in a poor form as they won just one of their last seven across all competitions and they suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Lazio in their Serie A match of 2021. The defeat saw them extended their winless run to six matches in Serie A, a run responsible for their drop in the league rankings.
Paolo Zanetti’s side will therefore be looking to put an end to their slump when they face a struggling Salernitana in this important league action. Their main focus in the second half of the season will be staying out of the relegation zone and three points I this match will be a perfect start.
