Salernitana vs Sassuolo Match Analysis and Prediction

Serie A returns to the fold as rock-bottom Salernitana welcome a currently in-form Sassuolo to Stadio Arechi for their Serie A Matchday 29 fixture on Saturday evening with kickoff at 17:00.

Despite suffering the first defeat since the beginning of February Salernitana have made a poor campaign in Serie A this season and have failed to win in their last seven league matches while have only won one of their last 17 matches across all competitions.

They suffered a thumping 5-0 defeat at the hands of Inter Milan last week Friday night, with the goals bringing their total conceded to 61 so far this season. Prior to this season, only 10 teams in history had conceded more than 60 goals after 26 games of a campaign in Italy’s top flight – Crotone being the most recent, just last year. Eight of those clubs have ultimately been relegated by the end of the season, so the odds are certainly stacked against Davide Nicola’s side staying up.

They currently sit at the foot of the table with 15 points from 26 matches and are some 10 points adrift of safety. With the season slowing edging toward the end the Granata will need to turn around their fortunes if they are going to avoid an immediate return to the Serie B.

Meanwhile Sassuolo have been improving immensely this year as no other Serie A side have collected more points than the Neroverdi’s 15 since the start of 2022 and are coming off a three match winning streak.

They have now moved into the top-half as they sit 10^th on 39 points from 28 matches and five points above the 11^th placed Torino. With eight point keeping them outside the European places Nerovardi will feel that achieving European qualification might be beyond them this season, but nonetheless, Alessio Dionisi will expect his side to extend their winning streak on Saturday, as they look to achieve another top-half finish.

Sassuolo will fancy they chances havening won in all last four meetings against Salernitana and they claimed a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
