Romania Under 19 and Slovakia Under 19 will have an encounter at CITY ARENA – Stadion Antona Malatinskeho in the UEFA U19 Championship on Friday, with nothing but pride on the line.
The two nations will exit the competition at the group stages after losing matches to France and Italy, and the host nation Slovakia will require a win to avoid finishing bottom of Group A.
Having only secured a spot in this comprtition as the host nation, the Slovakians were always going to be up against it when being paired with arguably the two strongest nations in the tournament.
Albert Rusnak would have hoped that his side would have been competitive with the favourites to win the competition France, the added factor of it being the opening match of the competition giving reason to think that the game could be competitive.
However, Slovakia were condemned to defeat in a 5-0 scoreline, each of the goals being scored in a 46-minute perion between the 16th and 62nd minutes.
Slovakia improved significantly in their following encounter with Italy, only losing by a 1-0 scoreline, but the defeat has eventually left them out of the competition with one game still to play.
While the same can be said for the Romanians, they have at least tested the superior teams in the group in their first two games.
At some point, Romania were level with Italy, grabbing an equaliser through Luca Andronache, but the Italians were eventually able to run out 2-1 victors.
France claimed a victory by the same scoreline three days later, Romania playing the majority of the game 2-0 down before scoring a late consolation.
However, Daniel Oprescu will take positive from the campaign if they can finish their schedule with a convincing success, being only their second appearance in this competition.

The two nations have previously met on just one occasion in the UEFA U19 Championship in March 2016, where Slovakia claimed a 3-1 home victory. They now meet for the second time in a competitive match in the same tournament.

Romania Under 19 news
Aurelian Ciuciulete is line to come into the midfield for Romania with Dan Sirbu needing to be withdrawn after just 25 minutes last time out against France.
Eduard Radaslavescu and Andreas Chiritoiu are also pushing to be included in the final third as Romania look to finish the competition on a high.
Slovakia Under 19 news
Rusnak may give opportunities to some of the players who did not get on the pitch against Italy, with Gabriel Halabrin being an alternative to Dominik Holly in central midfield.
Viktor Silacky and Adam Gazi will hope for chances on the flanks, while Adam Griger could start down the centre of the attack.
Prediction and Odds
Although both teams head into the game without a point on board, the Romanias have been significantly more competitive than the Slovakians despite being the host country.
Barring that in mind, we are backing Romania to edge the contest, potentially by a narrow margin with Slovakia having improved in their second game.
