RKC Waalwijk vs AZ Alkmaar Match Analysis and Prediction

AZ Alkmaar travel to the Mandemakers Stadion on Wednesday to face RKC Waalwijk, with both teams looking for a spot in the semi-finals of the KNVB Beker.

The hosts needed penalties to overcome lower league opposition ADO Den Haag, while AZ defeated Twente in the round of 16.

Waalwijk were defeated for the first time since the turn of the year in a 3-1 loss to Willem II at the Konig Willem II Stadion on Sunday.

Joseph Oosting’s side went down in the first half with a brace from Thijs Oosting and a goal from Jizz Hornkamp, before grabbing a consolation goal from Michiel Kramer in the second half.

RKC now have only a little time to dwell on that defeat as they prepare for what is set to be their toughest tie so far against a very capable opposing outfit.

Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar secured a fifth away victory on the bounce through a 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion on Saturday.

The Cheeseheads went down in the 19th minute as Armando Obispo opened the scoring before they bounced back with goals from Bruno Martins Indi and Jesper Karlsson.

Pascal Jansen’s side are now unbeaten in their last 15 matches across all competitions, a run which includes KNVB Beker victories over Heracles and FC Twente, since losing to Feyenoord in November.

AZ Alkmaar now have another opportunity to keep this good form running, as they now face an opposing side with only one win in the last seven encounters involving the teams.

However, that solitary victory came in the most recent meeting back in August when AZ fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Having failed to reach the last four of the Dutch Cup since 2019, AZ will be keen to come out on top at full time.

RKC Waalwijk news

Jens Odgaard and Finn Stokkers have scored six goals combined in the competition so far and will be relied upon, while Dario van den Buijs is a huge doubt for this cup tie.

David Min is yet to feature this season, while goalkeeper Joel Pereira remains without an appearance since August.

AZ Alkmaar news

Following their good run of form, AZ could stick to the same side that started against PSV, while Jelle Duin is the only absentee for the game.

Zakaria Aboukhlal has returned from international duty and will be pushing for a start in this cup competition after coming off bench last time out.

Prediction and Odds

AZ have been on a good run of form, and are on a 15-game unbeaten run, which gives them much confidence heading into this contest.

Waalwijk will try to put up a strong fight, but we fancy the visitors to have enough quality to come away with a victory here.
