The European football returns this week with a clash between the Champions League champions, Real Madrid, and the champions of the Europa League Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup final at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night.
Real Madrid endured a tough route towards their Champions League glory as they were forced to fight the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool to get their hands on their 14th Champions League title.
Los Blancos also won the La Liga title and will be looking forward to another successful season starting with the UEFA Super Cup. La Liga is yet to kickoff, therefore Real Madrid used their pre-season to build up to this game, where they got a mixed bag of results as they fell to Barcelona, before drawing with Club America and beating Juventus in their final friendly.
Real have won the Super Cup four times and will be looking to add to that tally on Wednesday, where they are the favorites.
Meanwhile Eintracht Frankfurt put up an impressive fight in the Europa League last season, with the side taking on tough opponent like, West Ham, Real Betis and Barcelona en route to the final. They met a bouncing Rangers on the final, where a penalty shootout separated the two with Kevin Trapp saving the last Rangers penalty by loanee Aaron Ramsey to win Frankfurt the trophy.
The Germans will now play in the Champions League this season, but before that they have another chance to get their hands on another European title. However, they fight Real Madrid for it and Oliver Clasner’s side are off a worst possible start to their league campaign as they suffered a thrashing 6-1 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich. They therefore have much to amend before the Wednesday clash.
