Having already secured a place in the next Chinese Super League season, Tianjin Jinmen Tiger aim to end the campaign on a high over the final stretch, starting with Wednesday at Dongxihu Sports Centre against Wuhan Yangtze, who are looking to improve their chances of avoiding relegation.
The hosts are currently sitting in 16th place in the league table on 16 points after 30 matches, just one point adrift of the safety of 15th place with just two games remaining to end the season.
Wuhan Yangtze head into the contest off the back of a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cangzhou Mighty Lions in their last Chinese Super League match at Wuyuan River Stadium Field 2, ending their two-game unbeaten run – with Jose Kante scoring the only goal of the game in the 28th minute.
At Dongxihu Sports Centre this season, Wuhan Yangtze have recorded three wins, four draws and eight losses in 15 Chinese Super League matches.
Jinyu Li’s side will be looking to extend a three-game home unbeaten streak dating back to November 4 against Meizhou Hakka, with the run providing confidence within the team on home soil ahead of Wednesday’s contest.
Meanwhile, Tianjin JMT enter the contest off the back of a 1-1 draw with Henan Songshan Longmen in their last Chinese Super League match at Mission Hills Football Base Stadium, extending their unbeaten run to seven, which has left them in eighth place on 46 points.
The visitors are now preparing to take on Wuhan Yangtze boasting a record of six wins, three draws and five losses in league matches away from home this season, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways after playing out draws in their last two league matches.
When these two teams last met in Chinese Super League action, Tianjin JMT claimed a 3-1 victory at Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium in October. Wang Quiming, Robert Beric and Su Yuanjie all got on the scoresheet for Tianjin, while an own goal from Wang Jia’nan benefited Wuhan Yangtze as a consolation.
