West Ham United vs KAA Gent Match Analysis & Prediction

20/04/2023 10:00 pm

West Ham United host KAA Gent at the London Stadium for the second leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final, with both teams confident of progressing further in the competition.
The two teams played out a 1-1 draw in Belgium last week, with the hosts unfortunate not to be travelling back to London this week holding an advantage.
The tie is now delicately poised, yet West Ham should take all of the positives from the draw with their current run of results now seeing just one defeat in eight matches.
Securing a comeback 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday has further eased the pressure on David Moyes, whose team now sit four points clear of the relegation zone.
With extra breathing space in their favour, the Hammers can now focus on trying to go deeper in this competition having put together an 11-game unbeaten run on the continental stage.
Meanwhile, Gent have won just four times since the beginning of the group stage, losing three times and needing penalties to see off Qarabag FK in the last 32.
However, there is a feeling that Gent are the dark horses to lift the trophy having beaten Istanbul Basaksehir in the last 16 and showcased their qualities in the first leg against West Ham.
Back-to-back draws in the Jupiler Pro League against Union SG and Mechelen have slowed their momentum, but they remain in the final Championship playoff spot.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side require a victory over 17th-placed KV Oostende to secure fourth place, yet their full focus will be on this competition as they bid to move closer to the most notable achievement in their history.
