Walsall vs Crewe Alexandra Match Analysis & Prediction

21/02/2023 10:45 pm

Three places separate Walsall and Crewe Alexandra in the League Two standings going into Tuesday’s rescheduled fixture at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.
Both sides played out draws at the weekend, with the Saddlers drawing 1-1 with Newport County and Crewe fighting back to a 2-2 stalemate at Harrogate Town.
Walsall are currently eight points adrift of Salford City, having played two games fewer than the side occupying the final promotion spot in the competition, but a series of winless matches threaten to see them fall further away as it stands.
Michael Flynn’s side have drawn four successive matches in League Two, with February not being kind to the Saddlers. They are winless since the start of January, when a 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town looked to start the year on a positive note.
At the time, Walsall had won six from eight matches, losing just on in that sequence, but the subsequent games have seen them fail to live up to that promise.
Meanwhile, Crewe may have picked up five points from an available nine recently, but a comprehensive look at their results shows that they have won just twice in the calender year.
Their last victory in League two came against relegation-threatened Hartlepool United on Valentine’s Day, a 2-0 win that ended a six-game winless run in the competition.
Preceding that 1-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers on New Year’s Day were three defeats in a row, further highlighting the struggles encountered by a side that suffered relegation from League One in 2021-22.
The Railwaymen have scored two goals each in their last three matches, having failed to score more than one goal in League Two since a 2-2 draw with Northampton Town in late August.
That offers a glimmer of hope before facing draw kings Walsall – whose 11 stalemates outrank all but one side in League Two – before Tuesday’s rescheduled game at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.
Walsall vs. Crewe Alexandra Head to head
In the 27 previous meetings between these two teams across all competitions, Walsall have claimed six victories while Crewe have won 11, and they have drawn in 10. Crewe have scored 36 goals and conceded 29 in the process.
