Walsall vs Carlisle United Match Analysis & Prediction
26/11/2022 6:00 pm
Walsall will be looking to book their spot in the third round of the FA Cup when they play host to Carlisle United at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday.
It is a contest between two sides in League Two that met not too long ago, playing out a goalless draw at Brunton Park earlier in November.
Walsall beat League One opposition to reach this stage of the competition, claiming a 2-0 victory away at Wycombe Wanderers at the beginning of the month, through goals from Jacob Maddox and Isaac Hutchinson.
That victory came during a recent upturn in from for the Saddlers, who are now unbeaten in six matches across all competitions, stretching back to a 1-1 draw at Sutton United in late October.
These improved performances mean that Walsall can now begin looking at pushing for the playoff spots, as they are now just four points off seventh place, currently 11th on 27 points.
Competence on home soil was again on display last time out, as Walsall claimed a 2-1 victory over Crawley Town, with Hayden White and Danny Johnson getting on the scoresheet.
However, Carlisle will prove to be tough opposition, as they currently sit in the League Two playoff places, occupying sixth place and six points off the automatic promotion spots.
The Blues won 2-1 at home to Tranmere Rovers in the previous round, the second time within a space of a week that they recoreded a victory against Mickey Mellon’s side.
Paul Simpson has clearly set his side up with an attacking focus in a lot of matches this season, as indicated by an impressive scoring record.
This ability to create chances is well illustrated by Carlisle’s most recent trip to Salford City, winning 4-1 at the Peninsula Stadium to instil a four-point gap between themselves and their opponents.
