Seeking to secure a third straight home win in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, Vitoria Guimaraes welcome Nacional at Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques on Monday night.
Vitoria Guimaraes were left spitting feathers in their midweek Conference League tie against Fiorentina as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Italian side after conceding an 87th-minute equaliser.
Despite the result, Rui Borges will take pride in his side’s performance in Europe so far as they are one of just two unbeaten sides in the Conference League, securing four wins and two draws from their six games to collect 14 points and sit second in the standings.
Vitoria now turn their attention to the Primeira Liga, where they have blown hot and cold in recent weeks, securing just two wins and losing two of their nine games since posting back-to-back wins over Famalicao and Sporting Braga back in September.
While Vitoria have struggled to put together a run of form in the league, they remain in the mix to secure a spot in Europe as they sit sixth in the league standings with 22 points from 14 matches, five points off fourth-placed Santa Clara in the Conference League qualification place.
Meanwhile, Nacional were denied successive wins for the first time since returning to the Primeira Liga as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Benfica on Thursday.
Tiago Margarido’s side have now lost eight of their 14 Primeira Liga matches while securing three wins and three draws to collect 12 points and sit 15th in the league standings, just one point above bottom side Arouca.
