Vitoria Guimaraes vs Chaves Match Analysis & Prediction

30/01/2023 11:15 pm

Two teams just inside the top half of the Primeira Liga table meet on Monday night, when Vitoria de Guimaraes play host to Chaves, with neither side having won a game since returning from the World Cup break over a month ago.
Home form has been a strong point for Vitoria Guimaraes, as 17 of their 24 points this season have come here at the Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques, but they have been on an awful run of form since the World Cup.
They have picked up just one point and scored only once in their four league matches since the return of Primeira Liga action, and they were also knocked out of the Taca de Portugal by Braga earlier this month.
In addition, they were also unable to win any of their three League Cup group matches, despite being drawn against second-tier sides Belenenses and Vilafranquense.
That leaves their chances of European qualification looking very slim, as the league route is now their only option, and they are losing ground in the table every week as sides below them also catch up.
Chaves are one of those sides playing catch up, and despite not winning any of their seven matches post-World Cup either, they are unbeaten in their last three.
All three ended in 1-1 draws, which has kept them in touch with the final European spot, which will be hotly contested by a number of sides in and around mid-table.
Chaves have been particularly useful away from home, and out of their 22 points this season, 14 have come in away matches – as only Benfica, Porto and Portimonense have beaten them.
Victories away to Sporting Lisbon, Braga and Casa Pia have been critical in keeping them in the running for an unlikely Europa Conference League spot for a side who were promoted through the relegation playoff last season.
Vitoria Guimaraes vs. Chaves Head to head
In the 21 previous meetings between these two sides, Vitoria Guimaraes have claimed 16 victories while Chaves have won two, and they have drawn in three. Chaves have scored 21 goals and conceded 47 in the process.
