Vitesse vs FC Twente Match Analysis & Prediction
25/01/2023 8:45 pm
Two teams at opposite ends of the Eredivisie table meet on Wednesday, with struggling Vitesse playing host to title-chasing FC Twente at the GelreDome.
The hosts are without a victory in six league matches, while the visitors are unbeaten in eight, with Twente leading Vitesse by 19 points in the standings.
After suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Sparta Rotterdam, Vitesse ended November with back-to-back draws, entering the World Cup break on a three-game winless run.
Earlier this month, Vitesse returned to action with draws against AZ Alkmaar and NEC before suffering a 1-0 defeat to PSV Eindhoven, despite giving a decent account of themselves against the title contenders last time out.
Phillip Cocu’s side have now lost eight of their 17 Eridivisie matches this season, picking up three wins and six draws in the process, and they find themselves just three points clear of the automatic relegation spots as a result.
Having managed to win just one of their eight home league matches this season, conceding 19 goals in the process, Vitesse are in real danger of dropping into the second tier for the first time in over three decades.
Meanwhile, FC Twente find themselves in fourth place, four points behind first-placed Feyenoord, having lost just three of their 17 league matches this season.
Twente enjoyed a five-game unbeaten run in the Eredivisie before the World Cup, recording three wins and two draws, and they have extended that run to eight matches since the break, adding two victories and one draw to their tally.
After beating FC Emmen 2-0 in their first game back, Twente held Ajax to a goalless draw in Amsterdam before claiming a 2-0 victory over FC Utrecht last time out.
Twente have built their league campaign on a remarkable defensive record, conceding just nine goals, and they have also posted 10 clean sheets this season.
Having picked up 18 points from a possible 24 since their last defeat – which came against Feyenoord back in October – Ron Jans’ side will be confident of beating Vitesse in midweek.
Vitesse vs. FC Twente Head to head
In the 60 previous meetings between these two sides, Vitesse have claimed a 21 victories while Twente have won 24, and they have drawn in 15. Twente have scored 81 goals and conceded 83 in the process.
