30/01/2023 11:00 pm
Villarreal will be looking to build on their impressive run of form when they host Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Monday night. The home side currently sits fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Atletico Madrid, while Rayo has also been impressive this season, picking up 26 points to sit in ninth position.
Villarreal has been unbeaten in La Liga since November, winning four of their last five games in the league and picking up 13 points in the process.
The Yellow Submarine drew 1-1 with struggling Celta Vigo on January 13 but returned to winning ways last time by beating Girona 1-0 courtesy of a late penalty from Dani Parejo.
Real Madrid ended their Copa del Rey challenge on January 19, but they are in the knockout round of the Europa League after topping Group C ahead of Lech Poznan.
Rayo earned a return to La Liga through the Segunda Division playoffs in 2020-21, and they finished 12th in Spain’s top flight last term.
Los Franjirrojos have won seven, drawn five and lost six of their 18 league matches this season to collect 26 points, which has left them in ninth position in the table, two points behind sixth-placed Real Betis, and nine points clear of the bottom three.
There have been no signs thus far that relegation might be possible for Rayo in their final months of the campaign.

Villarreal Team News
Villarreal will likely be without several players for their match against Barcelona, including Raul Albiol, Francis Coquelin, Kiko Femenia and Alfonso Pedraza. As a result of this misfortune, Setien may decide to name an unchanged starting XI from the one that played against Girona last time. Jorge Cuenca could continue in defence with Samuel Chukwueze and Gerard Moreno up front.

Rayo Vallecano Team News
Rayo Vallecano coach Jose Ramon Sandoval will resist the temptation to make wholesale changes from the loss against Real Sociedad. Santi Comesana could replace Unai Lopez in central midfield. Still, Radamel Falcao is among the options for change in attack, while Sergio Camello again seems likely to start through the middle.
