Villarreal vs Almeria Match Analysis & Prediction

17/09/2023 5:15 pm

Villarreal will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats in La Liga when they resume their campaign at home to an out-of-form Almeria side on Sunday.
The hosts have picked up just three points from their first four matches of the new La Liga campaign to sit down in 15th place in the table, while Almeria are 19th, boasting just one point this season.
Villarreal sacked Quique Setien as head coach in the aftermath of the 3-1 defeat at Cadiz before the international break, with three losses from their first four league matches seeing a change being made.
Real Madrid Castilla boss Raul was strongly linked with the position, but Pacheta has been appointed as the new manager, with the 55-year-old returning to work in La Liga, having lost his job at Real Valladolid in April.
The Yellow Submarine’s only victory this season was a 1-0 win at Mallorca on August 18, losing at home to both Real Betis and Real Madrid, in addition to the 3-1 reverse to Cadiz earlier this month.
Almeria lost both La Liga matches against Villarreal last season, while they have not beaten the Yellow Submarine in Spain’s top flight since May 2010, which is an indication of the size of their task here.
La Union have picked up just one point from their opening four matches, which has left them in 19th place, with only Sevilla performing worse at this stage of the season.
Vicente Moreno’s side lost back-to-back home matches against Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid before drawing 1-1 at Cadiz on August 26, but they lost 3-2 at home to Celta Vigo before the international break.
Villarreal vs. Almeria Head to head
In the 21 previous meetings between these two teams, Villarreal have claimed 10 victories while Almeria have won four, and they have drawn in seven. Almeria have scored 19 goals and conceded 34 in the process.

Almeria’s Martin Svidersky remains a long-term absentee due to a knee injury, but the visitors are otherwise in good shape in terms of their squad.
Edgar Gonzalez should return in the middle of the defence, while there are likely to be two further changes, with Dion Lopy and Sergio Arribas both in line for starts after appearing off the bench last time out.
