Venezuela vs Paraguay Match Analysis & Prediction

13/09/2023 1:00 am

Venzuela will host Paraguay at Estadio Monumental de Maturin for a gameweek two encounter in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday morning.
The hosts will be hoping to secure their first points in these qualifiers on their home patch here, while Paraguay will feel they are in with a real chance of recording their first victory of the competition against this opponent.
Venezuela enter this contest following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia on Friday at Estadio Metropolitano, which leaves them in seventh place in the standings in the early stages of qualifying.
While that result was the first defeat Venezuela have conceded in their last eight matches, it is worth noting that the previous seven games were all friendlies, while each of their last four competitive matches have ended in defeat.
Fernando Batista’s side finished at the bottom of the standings in the last CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, managing just 10 points in 18 matches with three wins and a draw while losing the other 14 games.
Meanwhile, Paraguay were involved in the only drawn match in the first round of qualifiers, playing out a draw against Peru at Estadio Antonio Aranda on Friday.
That result sees them enter this contest in fifth place ij the qualification standings, while they have also kept clean sheets in the last two matches, following a 2-0 victory over Nicaragua back in June this year.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side fired 19 shots at goal with six on target but were unable to score, while their opponents were unable to register a single effort on target in the entire game.
Venezuela vs. Paraguay Head to head
In the 18 previous meetigs between these two teams, Venezuela have claimed five victories while Paraguay have won 10, and they have drawn in three. Paraguay have scored 26 goals and conceded 21 in the process.
