Vasco da Gama vs Sao Paulo Match Analysis & Prediction

Vasco da Gama will be looking to put their wretched Brasileiro Serie A form behind them in Sunday morning’s gameweek 11 match against Sao Paulo at Estadio Sao Januario.
When Vasco da Gama beat Vitoria on May 12, the club’s supporters probably hoped that the 2-1 victory would be the fillip required for a return to form.
However, the team have not built on that success, underlined by three defeats and a draw over the following four matches which sees them sit 16th just above Corinthians (both on seven points) by virtue of winning one more game.
Appointing Alvaro Pacheco in late May has not provoked a turnaround, with just one goal scored in four league matches, a 6-1 defeat to Flamengo on their turf, underscoring the 16th-placed side’s mediocre results.
With seven goals in 10 matches, only third-bottom Gremio (six) have scored fewer than Vasco da Gama, and 21 conceded – comfortably the worst in the division – means that the hosts face an uphill task this weekend.
Sao Paulo hope to take advantage of their hosts’ awful defensive record when they seek to halt a three-game winless streak on Sunday morning.
Despite failing to win in back-to-back league matches (two draws), Tricolor Paulista were unbeaten in 13 matches across all competitions (seven in the league) before facing Cuiaba.
However, Luis Zubeldia’s side suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat on their turf to inflict the club’s first loss since the appointment of the head coach in late April.
Travelling supporters will hope that their side are better in front of goal against the worst defence in the league having fired blanks in two of their recent three league matches – a goalless draw with Internacional and a 1-0 defeat to Cuiaba.
Vasco da Gama vs. Sao Paulo Head to head
In the previous 42 meetings between these two teams, Vasco da Gama have claimed eight victories while Sao Paulo have won 23, and they have drawn in 11. Sao Paulo have scored 77 goals and conceded 45 in the process.
