Valencia vs Sevilla Match Analysis & Prediction

16/04/2023 10:00 pm

Fellow strugglers Valencia and Sevilla will be looking to enhance their chances of La Liga survival when they meet in an unfamiliar bottom-eight clash at the Mestalla.
The hosts sit two points inside the relegation zone, while Sevilla find themselves five points above the bottom three.
Valencia decided to part ways with manager Gennaro Gattuso in January following a run of one victory in 10 league matches, ending the Italian’s brief stint in the Mestalla hot seat.
However, new manager Ruben Baraja has so far failed to transform the club’s fortunes, as Valencia have lost seven of their 10 matches since Gattuso’s departure, picking up seven points from a possible 30 in the process.
Looking at the big picture, Valencia have managed to win just two of their previous 14 La Liga matches, suffering 10 defeats in the process.
Despite sitting five points clear of Valencia, Sevilla still remain in real danger of relegation having struggled for consistency throughout the campaign.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have managed to win just eight of their 28 league matches this season, recording eight draws and 12 losses to prevent them from steering clear of the relegation zone.
Sevilla have also won just three of their 14 away league matches this season, with a solitary victory coming in their previous nine games on their travels, so they must improve on the road.
Valencia vs. Sevilla Head to head
In the 61 previous meetings between these two teams across all competitions, Valencia have claimed 25 victories while Sevilla have won 24, and they have drawn in 12. Sevilla have scored 67 goals and conceded 75 in the process.

Valencia Team News
Valencia will be without the injured Thierry Correia, Jaume Domenech and Justin Kluivert on Sunday, while young midfielder Nico Gonzalez is a doubt.
Edinson Cavani is expected to replace Kluivert in the starting lineup, with the former Manchester United striker likely to join Hugo Duro and Samuel Lino in Valencia’s forward line.

Sevilla Team News
Pape Gueye and Marcos Acuna will miss Sunday’s contest through suspension, having both seen red in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo.
Alex Telles is also suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards, so Karim Rekik is expected to fill in at left-back, with Jesus Corona and Joan Jordan unlikely to feature in the matchday squad.
