Uganda vs Congo Match Analysis & Prediction

Uganda will be out seeking their first win of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they play host to Congo at the Mandela National Stadium on Monday.
Having missed each of the last two AFCON tournaments, Uganda were keen to begin their qualifying campaign with a win and nearly managed an opening-day upset against South Africa.
The Cranes came within touching distance of securing all three points at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday, but ultimately had to make do with a share of the spoils in Pretoria.
After going behind to Lyle Foster’s opener, Paul Put’s side rallied in the second half to hit back through quickfire strikes from Denis Omedi and Rogers Mato Kassim, before Thalente Mbatha equalised in stoppage time.
Since kicking off 2024 with a 1-0 friendly victory over Kuwait, Uganda have come out on top in just one of their subsequent five matches across all competitions, which came against Botswana in June.
Meanwhile, Congo began life in Group K with a much-needed 1-0 victory over South Sudan when the teams met at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat on Thursday.
Massanga Matondo’s strike within the opening 15 minutes was enough to settle matters and hand Isaac Ngata his first win in charge at the third attempt since taking over from his opposing number in Monday’s contest, Paul Put.
That was a first win in six matches for The Red Devils dating back to March 2023 when they also beat South Sudan in an AFCON qualifying match, although all to no avail as they failed to make it through to the tournament’s finals.
A chance to secure successive wins for the first time since 2018 now awaits Congo, who are still picking themselves up off the back of a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Morocco in June’s World Cup qualifiers.

Following his goal against South Africa, Uganda’s Denis Omedi has now scored five times in his last seven matches for club and country, making him one to keep a close eye on.
Goalkeeper Ismail Watenga has recalimed his place in the hosts’ lineup since temporarily dropping out towards the back end of last year.

Congo Team News
Congo’s Morgan Poaty came off with an injury scare 10 minutes into the second half against South Sudan, and the 27-year-old is a doubt for his side’s trip to Kampala.
Should Poaty be deemed unfit to participate, Brunallergene Junior Etou is the favourite to come into the XI for what would be only a second international appearance.
