Trinidad and Tobago vs French Guiana Match Analysis & Prediction
11/09/2024 2:00 am
The CONCACAF Nations League continues to the second matchday on Wednesday when Trinidad and Tobago host French Guiana, with both nations seeking their first points in League A Group B.
Trididad and Tobago enter this contest on the back of a 4-0 defeat to Honduras, with goals from Alexander Lopez, Kervin Arriaga, Edwin Rodriguez and David Ruiz condemning them to a huge opening-game defeat.
With French Guiana coming up and then a double-header against 167th-ranked Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago can still bounce back from the Honduras defeat and have a successful tournament if they manage to get their Nations League campaign up and running here.
Trinidad and Tobago are currently 100th in the FIFA rankings and a good showing in this tournament could see Derek King’s side jump a few spots higher, but it will be a tall order to see them reclaimtheir lofty position of 25th that the country rose to back in 2001.
Meanwhile, French Guiana are debutants at this level of the Nations League having been promoted out of League B last year, and it will be interesting to see how they manage this higher level of opposition.
Jean-Claude Darcheville’s side had not played a competitive game between November 2023 and Friday’s 1-0 home defeat to Nicaragua, when Widman Talavera’s last-gasp winner left the hosts empty-handed.
However, French Guiana showed that they are no pushovers, and although they do not have a FIFA ranking or any household names in their ranks, they have had noteowrthy wins over the likes of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Bermuda over the last year.

Midfielder Ajani Fortune and forward Levi Garcia were both unavailable for Trinidad and Tobago’s last game, and the pair are expected to once again miss out here.
Nathaniel James came off the bench in the Honduras defeat, and the forward could lead the line ahead of Ryan Telfer should the manager opt to freshen up his attacking line.
