Tottenham Hotspur Ladies and Everton Ladies will both be looking to end a run of three successive defeats in the Women’s Super League when they meet at Brisbane Road on Wednesday.
The two sides are level on nine points after eight WSL matches, and with their goal difference identical, Tottenham are one place above Everton on goals scored.
Tottenham kicked off the campaign with four victories from six matches across all competitions, but they have managed to win just one of their last four games, which was a 5-1 win over Championship side Coventry United in the League Cup.
In the Women’s Super League, Tottenham have lost three successive matches, including a 2-0 home defeat to London rivals West Ham United at the weekend.
After playing out a goalless first half, Dagny Brynjasdottir broke the deadlock, and any hopes of Spurs claiming a point were ended when Hawa Cissoko doubled West Ham’s advantage in the 83rd minute.
Although Rehanne Skinner will be disappointed with her side’s form in recent weeks, Tottenham will finish the calender year in the top half if they can take all three points on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Everton missed out on the opportunity to end a run of three successive league defeats at the weekend after their meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion was postponed.
Brian Sorensen’s side have won just one of their previous five matches,w hich tokk place in the League cup against second-tier Sheffield United.
The Toffees’ most recent game was also a League Cup fixture, but they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on that occasion.
While Sorensen’s side managed to score two goals in the defeat to the Red Devils, like Wednesday’s opponents, they have also struggled to find the back of the net this season.
Everton are currently the second-lowest scorers in the Women’s Super League with seven goals in eight matches, but they will be looking for an improvement in the final third on Wednesday, as they aim to move into the top half of the league table.
