Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Match Analysis & Prediction
15/05/2024 9:15 pm
Chelsea Women will have the chance to move to the top of the Women’s Super League table when they travel to Gaughan Group Stadium to face Tottenham Hotspur Ladies on Wednesday night.
The hosts will have to pick themselves up quickly from Sunday’s disappointing defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
Tottenham Hotspur will be in a downbeat mood after their first FA Cup final appearance saw them suffer a heavy 4-0 defeat to Man United.
Despite falling short at Wembley, Tottenham can still be proud of the progress that they have made in Robert Vilahamn’s first season in charge.
As well as leading the club to the FA Cup final, Vilahamn has seen his side collect 28 points from 20 league matches, representing a considerable step forward from last season’s 18-point tally.
With two games left to play, Spurs are guaranteed to finish in sixth position, but they will still be motivated to extend their unbeaten league run to six matches.
Meanwhile, Chelsea saw teir quadruple hopes go up in smoke with a League Cup final defeat and semi-final losses in FA Cup and Champions League.
Emma Hayes’ side them experienced more disappointment when they suffered a 4-3 defeat in their most recent away game against Liverpool.
That result appeared to dent Chelsea’s WSL title hopes, but they were given reprieve when Manchester City conceded two late goals to lose 2-1 to third-placed Arsenal.
The Blues took full advantage of Man City’s slip-up, thrashing bottom side Bristol City 8-0 through four Guro Reiten goals, an Aggie Beever-Jones brace, as well as strikes from Sjoeke Nusken and Niamh Charles.
With three point separating them from Man City, Chelsea know that victory over Tottenham will move them to the top of the table ahead of the final day of the season due to their narrow goal-difference advantage.
