Toronto vs Columbus Crew Match Analysis & Prediction
19/09/2024 2:30 am
Toronto FC can take another step towards securing a spot in the MLS Cup playoffs when they host the reigning champions the Columbus Crew to BMO Field on Thursday.
Following a 2-1 victory over Austin FC this past weekend, the Reds are five points above the Eastern Conference playoff line in eighth, while the Crew are third after a goalless draw with FC Cincinnati.
Thursday will be Toronto’s second match in a three-game domestic homestand, with John Herdman’s side seeking back-to-back MLS wins at BMO Field for just the second time this year.
By winning their remaining four home matches, the Reds would surpass their regular-season victories total at BMO Field from a year ago (seven), which would be their highest since 2019 (nine).
Meanwhile, a slow start to September has significantly reduced the Crew’s chances of securing the Suppoters’ Shield for the fourth time in club history, with the team currently on a two-game winless run.
Despite only securing one point in their Hell is Real Derby with Cincinnati this past weekend, it was enough for Columbus to officially secure a spot in the MLS Cup playoffs on successive occasions for the first time since 2017 and 2018.
Their seven away wins in MLS this year are the most Wilfred Nancy’s side in a single 34-game domestic campaign and three more than they has a season ago.
